One of my (male) friends keeps on complaining that its a female biased world. Everywhere and anywhere you go there is always some or the other kind of reservation for women,be it buses, metros, banks you name it and there it is.Whats more frustrating is that these women get their work done without having to stand in long queues for hours, thanks to their reserved sections. And there is more to it..girl not happy with the groom’s family or needing money?oh there is always a court to look upto. You just need to act as a melancholic victim of harassment, dowry and/a philandering husband, don't worry the court will take care of the rest. Considered delicate darlings, they can be vicious and sadistic enough to put Hitler to shame.
Poor boy..suffers a lot:(!!.and as if the world was not doing enough to drive him nuts..here comes the women’s Reservation bill passed to grant 33% reservations to the fairer sex in parliament and all state legislatures and other government run bodies.
Well, here is the crux: the reservation bill for women was not a sizzler served on a platter, various NGOs and great political leaders and activists have been fighting for it since 1996.After six failed attempts, finally 2010 ended the sysphian scenario. Though I really want to tell the reader about the struggles and battles fought for this(and I am not exaggerating) while the reader was complacently sleeping in his cocoon,I know it would bore many and the interested ones could anyway use the GOOGLE. Many are not able to understand why in this modern era where you see women walking shoulder to shoulder with men, talking about equality and professionalism do they need reservations, have they secretly conceded to their professional incompetence? or is this double standard an answer to their cynicism? Though I may be deemed as a traitor by my counterparts I too couldn’t digest this bill, seriously why? the educated ones anyways find a respectable seat?
But there is more to this Edwardian scenario. As we know all that glitters is not gold, no..no.. I am not going to bore you by listing the inhumane cruelties being inflicted on the “Abhala Naarees”. Its just based on how you perceive the world. Its not necessary a smiling face is always happy. Nobody can gauge the amount of struggle a woman has to undergo in just attending a 9-5 office. Early morning(of course her day begins at 5am and ends around 1am,if she is lucky), first she has to make breakfast for her family,so what if she herself forgets to eat or even to pack a small apple for lunch ( a widely acknowledged presumption “ she is resistant to hunger”, no big deal, but bichaari family woh bhooki kaise reh sakti hai??).Believe me just walking on the street on her way to catch a bus is no less a battle, a battle against those numerous pairs of ogling eyes, those dirty comments, whistles, actions etc she fails to ignore even after so many years of practice right from her childhood. Her Wait at the bus stand and her journey in the bus, well if you watch movies you would know what I mean. And the worst of all, harassment in the office.Man ! thats the last straw that breaks her strength, she cant utter a word against it for the fear of losing the so called decent job she some how managed to land upon, more out of her desperateness to abdicate the title of pariah to the concept of self-reliance bestowed on her by her beloved family and well wishers, than actually being interested in the job profile.
Well, those who think ‘HER’ to be just a fashion frenzy pussy cat, well dudes(and aunties, if any) broaden your perspectives and come out of your little haven built totally on falsifications.
Step in her shoes for one day, you will definitely realise that even a flat kolhapuri might bring much more sores and boils to your finely pedicured feet than a Versache stiletto.
